There is a saying in Oaxaca that once you try chapulines (crispy grasshoppers fried in garlic and lime), you're destined to keep coming back.

I don't know whether my own repeated visits are the result of a post-bug-consumption addiction, or simply Oaxaca's inescapable appeal. But there was definitely something compelling enough about this region to break my "new-pin-in-the-map" approach to travel and keep me coming back.
