As a Passion Catalyst, I help people identify their
passions and create careers that ignite them.
My work has shown me first-hand the incredible energy that can come from doing something that truly reflects who you are, rather than putting on a mask every morning when you go to work. I'm a firm believer that career development and passion pursuit can - and should - be one and the same.
At the core of my Passion Catalyst work is the Occupational Adventure Guide, a model I developed to help my clients visualize the journey and understand the process.
I haven't just created the model though - I have also lived it! Prior to discovering my passion for passion, I was a marketing consultant for high tech companies. Throughout my career transformation, I used the model as a guide, and I continue to use it today.
This real world, first-hand experience, coupled with the insights gained both from facilitating others on their journey and in-depth interviews with dozens who have already made it happen, gives me a unique and valuable perspective.
I have actively worked with people in their careers, both formally and informally, since 1997 when I first created a job list (current subscription about 1600 people) as a good-karma way to give back to the community.
I created my Passion Catalyst career by literally putting a framework around something I had been doing for years just because I loved it - helping people explore possibilities and new ways of looking at things. In many ways, my Passion Catalyst work isn't a job, it is simply an extension of who I am.
I am a public speaker, speaking on topics ranging from how to uncover and discover your own passion to self-promotion for those who are pursuing their passions through self-employment.
I offer Passion Pursuit seminars, and was also the organizer of the Passion People Speaker Series, which provided those who have pursued their passions in their careers a forum to share what they have learned along the way. Speakers included Richard Tait, co-founder and Grand Poo Bah of Cranium, and Richard Bangs, currently Producer-Editor of Microsoft's Well-Traveled, co-founder of Mountain Travel-Sobek, and former CEO of Outward Bound.
I write for Worthwhile magazine, a business/life magazine founded by two Wall Street Journal veterans. I have been quoted in articles in New York Newsday, The Toronto Globe and Mail, The Seattle Times, Monster.com, and the America West inflight magazine, and have been mentioned as a career expert on CNN. I have been interviewed on numerous radio shows around the country, including The Career Clinic, The Business Shrink, and The Entrepreneur Hour. I have done in live in-studio interviews on Seattle's Q13 Fox News, and have written career passion articles for newsletters such as job.com and net-temps.com.
I share my insights on identifying and creating a passion filled career in two e-books, "The Occupational Adventure Guide: A travel guide to the career of your dreams," and "The Five Fundamentals of Occupational Adventure," available here.
And last but not least, I maintain the Occupational Adventure, "an ever-unfolding mixed bag of nuts, loosely clustered around the the central theme of Occupational Adventure - that is, a career that lights your fire."
